Covert intelligence operative Michael Westen has been punched, kicked, choked and shot. And now he's received a "burn notice", blacklisting him from the intelligence community and compromising his very identity. He must track down a faceless nemesis without getting himself killed while doubling as a private investigator on the dangerous streets of Miami in order to survive.

The first season of the series introduces Michael Westen. He is burned while on a covert op in Nigeria. After fleeing, he soon finds himself in Miami, where he is reunited with his ex-girlfriend, Fiona Glenanne, and another old friend, Sam Axe. In addition to hunting for the people who burned him, Michael starts to work as a freelance spy, helping people with cases involving kidnapping, arms dealers, con artists, and drug traffickers.

Michael Westen had struggled to find out why he had been burned and by whom. Westen continues his work as an unlicensed private investigator and freelance spy for anyone in town who can pay him any money in order to fund his personal investigation into his own situation as a blacklisted agent. Westen battles and outwits an array of mobsters, con artists, contract killers, professional thieves, drug traffickers, arms dealers and kidnappers. Season 2 introduces a mysterious woman named “Carla”, an agent of the organization behind Michael’s burn notice who is now trying to get him to work for that organization. Although he resists, she assigns him various tasks, while he also attempts to find out who she is. She often coerces him into working for her by threatening the people he cares about with violence.

Season 3 picks up with Westen, having lost the protection of “Management,” now under surveillance by Miami Detective Paxson, who has been tasked with monitoring his activities. Michael is able to secure the arrest of a major Miami criminal Paxson has long been targeting, and he threatens to reveal the true circumstances of the arrest if Paxson does not stop following him. Paxson agrees to the deal. Michael is soon contacted by a man named Tom Strickler, a “smooth-talking, gregarious freelance spy broker”, who offers to unburn Michael in exchange for his help with a potentially lethal job. It is clear to Michael that Strickler has major, if shadowy, connections, but appears to be the first person he has met capable of getting him his old job back.

As the fourth season opens, Michael sits alone in a well furnished room, where he meets his new handler, Vaughn. Vaughn attempts to lure Michael into the organization by attempting to befriend him, and tells Michael the organization is now on the hunt for a terrorist mastermind. Michael agrees to work with Vaughn on the condition Vaughn does not interfere or question his methods. Vaughn agrees, but as they begin their search, Michael is duped into burning another domestic spy, a counter-intelligence agent named Jesse Porter. Jesse, unaware of who burned him, seeks out Michael for assistance. Michael brings Jesse into his team in an effort to restore Jesse to his previous position, but soon learns Jesse plans to kill whoever burned him.

Burn Notice is a term used in the American intelligence services, meaning that a particular agent or the source of the information become unreliable. Michael Westen – spy who received a burn notice. That is declared – unsafe / hazardous agent. He has two black belts and he can perfectly use “anything, which can shoot bullets or having a blade.” He often improvises with electronic devices purchased from a household electrical goods, such as radio and mobile phones. He is recruited by a terrorist organization to kidnap a special sensitive equipment. However, someone will want to expose him. Sam, Fiona and Jesse will do anything to help Michael.
