In the center of the story is real memories of midwife Jennifer Lee, which became a basis for a series of best-selling books by Jennifer Wharf. In the 50s Jenny arrived in a poor area of London, settled in the monastery and Nonnatus with the nuns took to solve the health problems of the East End. In everyday life we see the work of midwives, life of patients and their families. This is not only tragic, dramatic and sometimes shocking moments, it’s a comedy too. Not accidentally shot in the series and Amazing Miranda Hart. TV drama has already received high praise from critics and rolls over ratings. All together it made the producers of the show after two pilot episodes from 6 to renew the show for a second season.

Call the Midwife season 4 episodes list:

Episode #1: Episode 1 (air date: 2015-01-18)

The nuns and midwives of Nonnatus House return, with new nurse Barbara, who is anxious to prove herself - only to get off on the wrong foot after a late-night drinks party. A family of severely neglected children is discovered, so Trixie strives to restore their health and bring happiness into their lives, leaving Tom filled with admiration for the woman he loves, while Sister Evangelina finally undergoes tests for her abdominal pains. Shelagh finds she is at the surgery almost as much as she is at home, so the Turners come up with a solution which, for 1960, proves somewhat ground-breaking.

Episode #2: Episode 2 (air date: 2015-01-25)

Barbara faces her most challenging case so far when she treats a first-time mother, only for the birth not to go according to plan. A new nurse arrives and soon makes an impression on Sister Evangelina, while Sister Julienne is worried about the increasing financial pressure on Nonnatus House, but doesn't bank on a mystery benefactor coming to the rescue.

Episode #3: Episode 3 (air date: 2015-02-01)

Poplar is gripped by an outbreak of dysentery, but that's the least of mum-to-be Marie Amos's worries when her husband Tony is arrested for gross indecency in the gentlemen's toilets and faces a criminal hearing. Nurse Crane meets Dolores McEvoy, a pregnant Irish woman who is clearly malnourished - but when she visits the woman's home, it turns out she has given a false address and has disappeared. Trixie is delighted when Tom asks her to oversee her first official church duty since their engagement, while at Nonnatus House, Fred tackles a rat infestation - only for Sister Monica Joan to work against him.

Episode #4: Episode 4 (air date: 2015-02-08)

Sister Winifred's eyes are opened to Poplar's seedy underworld when she cares for expectant prostitute Bridget Cole. Horrified by the young woman's lack of experience, she draws on her teaching experience to help, and with help from Sgt Noakes sets out to promote safe sex to all local working girls. Barbara struggles to understand why expectant father Frank Robbins would pressure his wife to bear him a son, while Sister Monica Joan is feeling sidelined - until she finds herself unexpectedly assisting Shelagh with an emergency birth. Trixie invites herself along to a meeting between Tom and the Bishop - but things get tense when the idea of the couple moving to Newcastle is raised.

Episode #5: Episode 5 (air date: 2015-02-15)

A Christian Scientist couple refuse medicine for their newborn baby, leaving Sister Julienne questioning the nature of absolute faith. However, the case becomes more complicated when the parents are accused of harming their child. Barbara uses her initiative to communicate with a pregnant Sylheti woman who cannot speak English, although using the patient's young son to translate provides new problems. Sister Mary Cynthia returns to Nonnatus House and a woman catches handyman Fred's eye.

Episode #6: Episode 6 (air date: 2015-02-22)

A diabetic teenager faces a tough time after falling pregnant, a situation complicated by her boyfriend's criminal past. Nurse Crane offers what support she can - but the girl's life is endangered when the young lovers go on the run. A case of petty theft brings a group of Irish travellers to the attention of the midwives, who end up treating a newborn infant and looking after an expectant mother, and it seems Fred's romance is on the up when he asks Violet to accompany him to a fundraising dance.

Episode #7: Episode 7 (air date: 2015-03-01)

A water shortage means that the maternity home is busier than ever and two old schoolmates are reunited, but Marion shuns Shirley's attempts at renewing their friendship until they are brought together later in an unexpected way. Elsewhere, Barbara makes a revolutionary suggestion to help Sister Mary Cynthia treat the bedsores of her patient Tommy Mills, whose wife Gert may be more in need of care than he is. Fred thinks about taking the next step in his relationship with Violet.

Trixie and Sister Mary Cynthia team up to support a deaf mother-to-be, while another patient causes great concern when a case of morning sickness proves more serious than initially suspected.
