A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King's best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King's literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body and numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. The series is shot in an anthology format, so the next season will present to the public many new characters. This time, viewers will get acquainted with the backstory of Annie Wilkes, a nurse-sadist from the novel and the full-length film "Misery." Annie Wilkes (Lizzy Caplan) with her daughter arrives in Castle Rock. A woman takes a job in a hospital and tries to get things going, but the locals give her a cool new welcome. It soon becomes clear that it is unsafe here, but Wilkes is not one to easily intimidate. No one, except her, knows what pushed the woman to move and what the heroine is looking for on this blood-soaked land.
