During the unrest, someone attempts to assassinate the Athenian king, Aegeus.
While on their travels, Hero and Oracle encounter a brilliant inventor Daedalus, who has escaped from King Minos. Soon after they discover there exists this Ring of the Magi. Later Queen Medea finds out about Hero and his quest, and sends priest assassins to dispatch of him. Priest Xerxes works with Pallas, and uses Lykos, to convince Medea she should participate in a tribute to Apollo, which is in fact an elaborate trap to take down the Queen.
Our trio of adventurers, Hero, Oracle, and Daedalus, are grabbed by mercenaries and brought in front of King Minos and his daughter, Princess Ariadne. When Minos sees the old inventor, he demands that Daedalus build him a machine of war, to conquer the Athenians behind the wall. Taken with Hero, Ariadne tries to weaken him with torture. When Medea learns of Hero's capture, she makes plans for his rescue.
Hero arrives at Athens, where Lykos is becoming more confident with himself. However, Lykos happens to learn about Hero, and who he is, which causes him to experience self doubt. Oracle tries to win Minos over with wit and charm, while reminding Daedalus that they must arrive in Athens before the Minoans do. Daedalus presents to Minos his idea for the most imminent war machine.
Medea and Aegeus try to persuade Hero to assist them in solving the riddle of the Lexicon, thus saving Athens, but Hero is unsure of their true intentions. Meanwhile, Lykos has no idea that Xerxes and Pallas are manipulating him to betray Aegeus and Medea. At the Minoan encampment, Daedalus causes a distraction so Oracle can sneak away to Athens.
Hero decides to help Medea solve the Lexicon. Medea learns that Hero must achieve a major task they believe must happen in the temple of Aphrodite, but Hero is surprised by who he discovers. Medea is headed off by Chalciope, who has come to take back the Ring of the Magi. Has Daedalus finished the war machine for King Minos to end the siege against Athens in her defeat?

Once inside the doors of Olympus, Hero, Oracle, Daedalus, and Medea now begin the real trek. As they journey, they are enlightened, tested, judged, and bitterly disappointed.
