The Handmaid's Tale
In a dystopian near-future, the totalitarian and Christian-fundamentalist government of Gilead rules the former United States amidst an ongoing civil war and subjugates women, who are not allowed to work, control money, or even read. Widespread infertility due to environmental contamination has resulted in the conscription of young fertile women—called Handmaids, according to biblical precedent—who are assigned to the homes of the elite, where they must have ritualized sex with the men in order to become pregnant and bear children for those men and their wives.
This is the story of an unhappy woman, which lost her daughter. The action of the series taking place in a totalitarian state of Gilead. The main character's name is Offred. She tells the story about a miserable life of middle-class people. The representatives of the upper stratum of the population are respected in the state. But women, for unknown reasons, can't have children. So the rich people capture the women of the middle class and send them to special camps. Religious sects observe for them here. They are dressed in red dresses and performed a sequential process of religious action. The women preparing for the birth of children. These children take the rich elite families later. Thus the representatives of the upper strata of society continue their own kind. Offred belongs to this category of mothers.
