Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon decide to keep their relationship in secret from their colleagues. Meanwhile, FBI investigates a homicide of a secret agent. Furthermore, a young and ambitious agent, Michelle Vega, joins the team. Also, Lisbon goes to jail under the guise of a prisoner in order to track down and arrest the boyfriend of one the condemned, who is a leader of a criminal gang dealing with the hijacking of luxury automobiles. Jane and Lisbon are sent to Lebanon at request of CIA in order to place an international arms dealer under arrest, where they meet their old familiar, Erica Flynn. She is not so green, as she seems to be and studies her own interests while communicating with the agents. In the meantime, the team investigates a murder, connected with sham diamonds operation, but the sickness makes Jane direct his colleagues from the office as long as he recovers. Jane and Lisbon begin their new relationship, but they must hide their feelings for each other from their colleagues as they investigate the murder of an undercover agent. Also, young, ambitious agent Michelle Vega joins the team.
Lisbon goes undercover as a prison inmate in order to get a convict to turn on her boyfriend, who is the leader of a high-end car theft ring.

Jane worries for Lisbon’s safety when the team puts itself in the line of fire to protect the witness in a murder investigation from a skilled assassin.
When Abbott’s old boss, Agent Peterson, threatens Abbott’s career – and possibly his freedom – Jane devises a risky plan to protect his friend’s future.
